Job Purpose


As a Tender Writer you will be part of the UK Commercial Team reporting to the Bid & Contracts Manager.


You will be responsible for developing winning bids by effective coordination of all operational and commercial stakeholders, writing successful narratives and responding to customer questions .You are the counterpart of sales, ensuring delivery of the best tender quality Staples can offer to the customer and ensuring compliance to the EU Common Operating Model.




·         Deliver high quality tender and re-tender related customer-facing communication to increase business win rate and drive retention

·         Liaise with key stakeholders within the business, Staples entities globally and key business partners to ensure high quality tender responses

·         Evaluate, plan, prioritize and quality check all proposed narratives

·         Regularly review of all tender narrative to ensure all information is up to date and current

·         Liaise with operational stakeholders to capture activities which will change the operational capability

·         Maintain a library of information for use in the tender process





Knowledge, skills & experience:


  • Degree in English desirable, minimum A-Level.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Ability to create innovative, creative, and aesthetically pleasing tender responses
  • Proven aptitude for written and verbal communication
  • Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge essential
  • Highly organised, with ability to manage tight deadlines and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong stakeholder management skills desirable
  • A sound administrative background and experience of working within a commercial environment. 

·         Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and use initiative

·         Strong communicator with the ability to multi task and work effectively under pressure.

·         Excellent organisation and planning ability.

·         Experience of creative writing or similar would be ideal but is not essential.




·         Commercial Awareness – Understands and applies commercial and business principles.

·         Communication (Oral and Written) – Speaks clearly, fluently and in a compelling manner to both individuals and groups and writes in clear and concise manner, using appropriate grammar, style and language for the reader.

·         Team Working – Involves members of team in decision making process. Build and maintains effective cross department / division relationships.

Quality Orientation – Shows awareness of goals and standards. Follows through to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met.
